About Bacteriostatic Water

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing benzyl alcohol as an antimicrobial preservative. In the laboratory it is used as a diluent when reconstituting lyophilised research materials.

A 2007 review of licensed parenteral products found that phenol and benzyl alcohol were the two most common antimicrobial preservatives in peptide and protein products (Meyer et al., 2007). Reviews describe how a preservative is chosen for its antimicrobial effectiveness and its compatibility with the active ingredient, including effects on peptide and protein stability (Meyer et al., 2007; Stroppel et al., 2023). Compatibility with a specific research material is not established by these reviews.

About the evidence. Findings reported in published studies relate to the materials used in that work. This product is supplied by Eternal Peptides Wholesale for laboratory research use only and is not for human or veterinary use. Its Kovera Labs reports are published on this page and in the COA library.
