About MOTS-c

MOTS-c (mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA type-c) is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded by a short open reading frame within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene (Lee et al., 2015). It was first described in 2015, in a study that used cultured cells and mouse models to examine its effects on cellular metabolism (Lee et al., 2015).

A 2021 study examined MOTS-c in mice of different ages and reported effects on skeletal-muscle metabolism and nuclear gene expression in those animals. The same paper reported that exercise increased endogenous MOTS-c in human skeletal muscle and circulation (Reynolds et al., 2021). Those human measurements concern the body's own peptide, not an administered peptide, and the mouse findings do not show effects in people.

About the evidence. Findings reported in published studies relate to the materials used in that work. This product is supplied by Eternal Peptides Wholesale for laboratory research use only and is not for human or veterinary use. Its Kovera Labs reports are published on this page and in the COA library.
